Is salvation a once and for all time deal? Is it a case of once saved, always saved? What does the Bible say? Some verses say yes, while others say no. How do we reconcile these apparent inconsistencies?
Well, it’s quite easy when you realize that there are more than 100 scriptures guaranteeing the eternal security of the believer. Those in Christ are eternally secure.
And how many scriptures say otherwise? Not one. There are only scriptures that are misunderstood or taken out of context and which are sometimes used to frighten Christians. Like this one:
It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. (Hebrews 6:4–6, NIV)
