
Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
A “yoke” is what keep oxen together when they are working in the field. Taken from Wikipedia: “The metaphor can also refer to the state of being linked or chained together by contract or marriage, similar to a pair of oxen.” Jesus is, in fact, stating that when we share in His work, we will find that it is not oppressive, in fact it will be light, as He works along with us.
When we become yoked with Jesus, we will find that we do not go in the same direction we used to. We will find that we no longer enjoy the same things. Now we look forward to going to church. We enjoy listening to a good sermon. Even though we are still in the world, the world does not appeal to us in the same way it once did. This…
