I decided to search the scriptures for great love stories. I was surprised to find that there were fewer than I had anticipated. There is the story of Jacob who loved Rachel so much that he was willing to work 7 years for her father. At the end of the seven years, her father tricked him and gave him her sister Leah instead. Jacob worked an additional 7 years for Rachel who his uncle, Laban, gave to him on condition that he worked 7 more years (Genesis 29:18-30). So, in total, Jacob worked 14 years for Rachel.
There is also the story of Ruth and Boaz: Ruth had followed her mother-in-law Naomi to another country. There she was gleaning sheaves of barley in the field and caught the eye of Boaz. He made sure that Ruth had enough barley by instructing his men to leave some behind. He later married Ruth and she had a son named O’bed. O’bed was an ancestor of David.
There may be others that you can think of. I realized that the greatest love story in the bible is the story of Jesus…
