As a professional soccer player, I spend a lot of time in locker rooms. And with locker rooms, there are inevitably locker room conversations. While there are times when the locker room is a familiar and comfortable place, I loathe the times when the banter turns to sex and women. That’s not because I’m prudish, but because my views wildly differ from 95 percent of those around me.
One of the hardest things I’ve had to do is maintain sexual purity, but I stay true to that for two reasons. First and foremost, I do it because of the biblical outline God has provided for us. God created sexual guidelines so that we don’t lose our focus on Him (1 Corinthians 6:18-20; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8). The Bible also says that sex should be something shared between a man and a woman committed to each other through marriage (Hebrews 13:4). I believe those truths, and they direct my sexual journey.
