What Does It Mean To Pray In Jesus Name?
To pray in Jesus name means to come to God based on the authority of Jesus. We cannot come to God on our own. Our sins separate us from God and make it impossible to come to Him. As it says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
When we come to God in prayer in Jesus name, we are coming to Him based on what Jesus has done for us. He is our Mediator, our Advocate, and our High Priest. He is the one who makes it possible for us to approach God. As it says in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
1 Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
